Nellie Bly, aspiring daredevil reporter, went undercover in an insane asylum on Blackwell's Island (now called Roosevelt Island) in New York City 1887.  There she befriended a patient named Anne Neville.   After 10 days, Nellie was sprung from the asylum to write her story.  Anne stayed.   A grand jury went to Blackwell's to investigate with Nellie Bly invited to accompany them.  There, they found the place had been whitewashed, with nearly all traces of abuse expunged.   The grand jury heard Anne Neville who, unprompted, told them how much nicer everything was now and how that changed not long after Nellie left.  Nellie Bly credits Anne with helping sway the grand jury.   
 
This expressionistic play tells the above story from Anne Neville's perspective.    We follow Anne as she is committed to the asylum, befriends Nellie, works with her, wonders at her, is inspired by her and ultimately struggles to do as Nellie does.
