Writers Intensive Winter 2020

What It Is:

A weekly writer’s group that runs for 8 weeks, with no more than 4 writers.  Each weekly session will last two hours, with a pair of writers presenting for one hour (including discussion).  Writers will alternate so that each writer presents every other week, for a total of four times.  There will two be moderators/facilitators/dramaturges to run the intensive.

When is it:

Week of January 21 through March 13

Criteria for admission:

Writer must submit a pdf draft of a full-length script, as well as provide a statement of rewrite goals.  Scripts and the statement will be evaluated by the artistic staff, and selections will be made based on those materials, along with demand for the intensive. The script can be a first-draft, or something that has been worked on many different times.  We are agnostic as to form and content.  It should not have had a production.

Scripts must be in pdf format, and rewrite goals must also be in a separate pdf document.  All submissions must be sent to info@workshoptheater.org.

Expectations of the writer:

Be present at all 8 sessions.

Set aside time to address rewrite ideas between sessions.

Have read the other three scripts before the intensive starts.

Be willing to read (act) each other’s work, as needed.

Provide printed pages for readers when presenting

Casting:

The intensive will focus on the reading of the text, rather than the performance of the text.  As such, emphasis will be on the writers and moderators reading their fellow participants work.  Additional actors will be recruited by both writers and moderators, as needed.

Cost:

"It was just the process I needed for my script. It was truly an "intensive" in that it helped me really focus and navigate my play, which would not have been possible on my own. I definitely would like to do it again sometime!" - Hyo

"Excellent program with wonderful insights from a great group of people." - Oded

"Thank you so much! This intensive was incredibly helpful in developing the next draft of my play, and I’m excited to keep working on it based on the feedback and discussions." - Sonya

"I am very grateful for the experience. Through the very nourishing notes from dramaturges, mates and actors, I found the truths I was looking for to better ground my play. The general atmosphere was respectful and warm." Lupe
